Facebook Groups: Moss vs. Owens (back)

Today the Dallas Cowboys (5-0) are taking on the New England Patriots (5-0) in one of the most anticipated games of the season thus far. Both teams are undefeated, and both have blockbuster players like Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, and Randy Moss. All week long the media has had a very easy time of promoting this game because of the players involved and the reputation of best team in the NFL at stake. One of the media's best tactics has been to pit Terrell Owens against Randy Moss, two premier wide-receivers in the NFL. Obviously, there is far more to any football game than just two players, but it is how they have framed this game nevertheless. Today, we will look at the Facebook Community's view of these two athletes. As always, The College Answers wants to hear from its readers, and we suggest you send us a message via our Contact Us form with any ideas you might have.

Randy Moss>Terrell Owens (Found by searching for "Randy Moss")
For those of you unaware of the mathematical implications in this title, allow me to shed some light on the subject. This title pretty much spells out, "Randy Moss is greater than/is better than Terrell Owens." The symbol ">" means greater than, and the opposite function means less than. This group is all about how Randy Moss is better than Terrell Owens, and how appropriate it is for today's topic. The Description literally states, "Anyone who thinks Randy Moss is better than Terrell Owens."

The Contact Information in this group is quite funny, and the creator of this group, Jimmy Simmons aka Tennessee (Clarion), was having a little bit of fun with it I'd say:
Street: 18 Moss Lane
City: Tip Drill 84, TN

Jimmy Simmons aka Tennessee goes on to say in the Recent News section, "Just look at the stats. T.O. has been in the league two years longer and of course look at their rookie season stats."

There are some interesting Related Groups. Two of them relate directly to Randy Moss. The first one is, "'I play when I wanna play.'-Tribute to Randy Moss." I guess, Moss once said this and as a result someone felt compelled to make a group about it on Facebook. Another Randy Moss Group is, "Bring Randy Back." This group was made by Minnesota Vikings fans who think that it was a bad idea to trade Moss in the first place. Can't blame 'em really.

There are a lot of Wall Posts, 55 of them in fact. Ian Nelson (Catholic Memorial) has the most recent post, "sunday's game is gonna be 75-0." I wonder if his prediction will come true. Another common math equation that Randy Moss is involved in is referenced by Kevin Kania (Ramapo), "Moss + Brady = Super Bowl Champs." There are a bunch of Facebook Groups with this title. All in all, there are 210 members of this group who all agree that Randy Moss is better than Terrell Owens, and I guess, at the very least they will find out this Sunday, October 14.

Its a shame that Terrell Owens didn't take 36 pills. (Found by searching for "Terrell Owens")
This group, and many of the groups that come up when searching for Terrell Owens, have to deal with his attempted suicide or what he claims to have been an allergic reaction to pills. The Description clearly states:

This group is for everyone who is tired of listening to all of TO's problems. It seems like everyday he will make the headlines one way or another. Whether it is for missing practice, not being paid enough (3 year 25 million dollar contract), breaking his finger, or just recently attempting to kill himself. It never ends!!!

The creator of this group, Adam Bahner, out of the Southern Nazarene network, also had some stuff to say in the Recent News Section. Bahner clearly articulates the groups purpose when he says:
I want EVERYONE to know that this group is not for everyone hoping that Terrell Owens died, because that would be horrible. Mainly its for everyone who just doesn't like TO.

Terrell Owens was rushed to the hospital early Wednesday, September 27. A later report will then say that he took 35 pills, and had an "allergic" reaction.

TO fails at everything!

Good, now I feel far more at ease. Aside from Bahner, the group has another Adam administrating it, Adam Myers also from the Southern Nazarene network. He's just a pawn in this whole operation.

There are some very witty and interesting Wall Posts too. Take for instance the comment made by Stephen VanZant on November 16th, 2006, "Terrell jacks off to porno pics of Bill Parcells." Well put Stephen. David Printers of the Topeka, KS network makes a larger statement about society when he comments on this groups wall, "JUST ANOTHER GROUP OF WHITE PEOPLE TRYING TO BRING A BLACK MAN DOWN." Printers, I'm not sure if that is the key emphasis of this group, but if you want to bring in discrimination and racism, go right ahead, that usually resolves conflicts.

This group is home to 126 members, who all do not like Terrell Owens and cite one of his most embarrassing moments to use against him. The media misconstrued this story as being a suicide attempt, when it actually was not. Terrell Owens has always had a streak of getting himself in the news and a little bit of trouble following him around wherever he went, but I don't even think he was a fan of this allegation.

Randy Moss and Terrell Owens are both incredible athletes. They are so good, that they have contributed their talents to the two most successful teams in the NFL this season. It is important to stay focused, however, and not buy into the hype that mass media continually tries to drill at us. There is more to the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots, than just two phenomenal and marketable athletes. Keep things in perspective and the game will be that much more exiting. Be smart. Be aware. Be the solution.
